Distance 5.4 km
Highest point2,084 m
Lowest point1,617 m
The itinerary first crosses the Campo Carlo Magno highland to Malga Mondifrà, an area that gets lots of sunlight all day long. You then head into a beautiful, dense forest of European spruce and silver fir as well as larch, where you will find Malga Vaglianella and Malga Vagliana as the forest begins to thin. Looking up, you will see the majestic south faces of Vagliana and Pietra Grande, while further to the south you will find the central section of the Brenta Dolomites and the Grostè ski runs, which you will encounter at the end of the itinerary near Rifugio Boch.
Along the way, you will find three rest areas with food services: Ristoro Carlo Magno, Malga Mondifrà, and Rifugio Boch.
At the end of the excursion, you can return to Campo Carlo Magno using the gondola lift or skiing down the ski run.
Important: Sections of the itinerary run along the cross-country skiing trails. We recommend you keep to the edges of the trail to not hinder oncoming skiers.
Experience walking along irregular mountain trails is recommended. In the event of fresh snow, snowshoes are also recommended. Be careful of ice when temperatures are particularly low. As you might imagine, the accessibility of these mountain trails depends entirely on the conditions found at any given time, such as the weather and other natural and environmental conditions. Therefore, before you set out, you should check the status of the trail by contacting alpine guides, lodge operators, or the local tourist office or park information office.
From Campo Carlo Magno descend 500m towards Dimaro, reaching the Cross Country Ski Center. From the Cross Country Ski Centre, 1.665m, follow route 6 to Malga Vaglianella 1.862m (55 min). Continue the ascend on the forest road for about 500 m, leave the road to continue on an ascend on the left side that allows to quickly reach a high altitude. For more tender paths, return (on the right side) on the road that quickly reaches Malga Vagliana, 1.976m (35 min). Turn right and climb the slope with a few zigzags up to the Sella di Vagliana, 2.038m, just below the top of the ski lift (10 min). From the Sella descend about a hundred meters to the left of the ski slope and at the end of the slope turn left. Continue over level ground to Pozza di Boch with the intermediate station of the Grostè cable car above, 2.070m (25 min). To return to Madonna di Campiglio follow the same route backwards or descend on the Grostè cable car from the intermediate station. It is possible to descend the slope skiing.
