Val Genova
Surrounded by the Adamello mountain chain on the south and by the Presenella chain on the north, Val di Genova is also known as the valley of the waterfalls for the numerous falls featured in its territory.
Located next to Val Rendena, in the eastern part of Adamello Brenta Nature Park, it can be travelled - by starting from Carisolo - for over 17 km before the road stops at Pian di Bédole. Pian di Bédole is overlooked by Adamello-Madron glacier, which extends over 18 km2 and is the largest glacier in the Italian Alps.
During the First World War numerous military operations took place on the special crystalline rock formations, called "tonalite", which are visible from the valley bottom and from the ice plains.
Apart from Nàrdis waterfalls, flowing directly out from Presanella glacier, there are many other waterfalls, including Casòl, Làres and Folgorìda waterfalls. On the valley bottom you will encounter waterfalls springing from the Sarca river, such as Casina Muta, Stablèi, Pedrùc, Pont delle Cambiali and Madron, just to name a few. The vegetation features larch trees, beech trees, mountain pines, birch trees and, of course, fir trees. The area is home to numerous Alpine animals such as roe deer, marmots, squirrels, ibex, brown bears, which were recently re-introduced into the Park, and the golden eagle.
